One of the most picturesque grounds in the world, set in the backdrop of the Table Mountains, Newlands is one of the few venues in South Africa known to assist spinners. Home of Western Province Cricket and the Cape Cobras, Newlands in Cape Town, has been an international venue since 1889, when it first hosted a Test match between South Africa and England. Huge stands interspersed with grass embankments add to the charm of the venue. In recent years though, the grass embankments have slowly started to make way for bigger concrete stands to accommodate more people. Despite the grass embankments slowly disappearing, the fragrance of wine in the air – thanks to breweries adjacent to the ground – and the snow clad mountains on the other side, make it the best place to watch cricket.
